Dirk Lentschat, born in 1964, began playing the trumpet already at five years of age. At a young age he had already acquired experience in various brass bands and orchestras as well as in jazz and rock bands. Although he had a classical music education, big band jazz quickly became his passion. In the 90´s he played for many years first trumpet in the musical Cats in Hamburg. During this time he had gigs in various Opera Houses and other musical theaters playing amongst others, the following works: West-Side-Story, Phantom der Oper, Beehive, Buddy Holly, Cabaret, Kiss me Kate, La cages aux Folles, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweet Charity, Joseph, Camelot, Dracula, Hair, Little Shop of Horror, and Les Miserables. Although he works with some classical groups as Hamburg Brass, Dirk play mainly Jazz, Pop and Rock. He also plays since many years in well known Latin Bands, such as Orquestra Conexion Latina, Sol Naciente and Cubanissimo.
He plays with Nils Gessinger, with whom he toured in Germany and recorded on his latest two CD´s. Dirk has also been in many NDR Big Band productions with musicians such as Paquito d´Rivera, Slide Hampton and Michael Gibbs. He plays with Achim Reichel and Mousse T, with whom he worked on many studio productions. At present Dirk is playing lead trumpet in Roger Cicero´s band. He has recorded on Roger´s CD Männersachen and is with him on the Festival Tour in Germany at present.
